Meet your host

Batavier at the Palmgracht is my home, and I share it with a few constant companions: my three black cats, Marley, Bobby, and Ziggy. I love plants, light, and air. Greenery fills the house and softens the space, echoing the calm of the Palmgracht itself. Once a canal, the street still carries a rare sense of openness and stillness. You are close to the Jordaan’s energy, cafés, and culture, yet far enough away to truly rest.

I am the founder of NOWATCH. Living with pseudoxanthoma elasticum means that blindness is a real possibility, at any time. Instead of narrowing my life, that reality has opened it. It has made everything sharper, more intense, more alive. I notice more, feel more, and choose presence over postponement. Life is not something to delay or rush through, but something to experience fully, every single day.

That perspective became the foundation of NOWATCH: an awareable that puts awareness first. No screens, no notifications, no constant pulling of attention. Just gentle signals that invite you to check in with yourself and feel what is already there. The same philosophy flows through this house.

Surfing, traveling, time in nature, sauna and cold water are essential parts of my rhythm. They bring joy, clarity, and aliveness. Batavier is meant to offer guests that same feeling: a place where you sleep deeply, breathe more freely, and experience Amsterdam from a grounded, attentive state.

As a guest of Batavier, you are warmly invited to explore the world of NOWATCH, online or in the store. Guests receive a special discount as a small gesture of welcome, an invitation to take this way of living with you, and to remember that awareness is not about limitation, but about living more fully.
